palm sugar drip (2024)
“Palm sugar drip” (2024) takes inspiration from a story from the artists' father that claims Cambodia's land extends as far as where you can find palm trees. Utilizing the process of glass sand casting, the sand trays that sit on the floor hold sand that have been sprayed and caramelized with palm sugar. Impressions of imprints taken from locations in Cambodia that the artist travelled to, are situated alongside impressions from imagery taken from paintings of Apsara rendered by artist Joseph Lindon Smith. Glass is poured into the voids made by the impressions in the sand and become a copy of the original. Hidden between the sheets of geotextile are prints of the paintings by Smith. The drip of palm sugar water makes its way down through the prints and slowly erases the imagery between the sheets and motifs down below.
